Dr Hendrik Odendaal
Hendrik was born and raised in South Africa. After completing high school in Stellenbosch, he obtained a swimming scholarship from the University of Florida and helped the Gators finish 4th overall at the national championships in his final year. He spent four years studying towards a B.S. in Exercise Physiology which laid the groundwork for his future studies in medicine. His career swimming highlight was winning a silver medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games as part of the South African 4 x 100 freestyle relay. On his return to South Africa, he studied Medicine at Stellenbosch University and graduated in 2008. Hendrik recently moved to Australia after spending the past 10 years working in Canada as a rural GP, emergency room doctor and GP anaesthetist. He obtained the Certification in the College of Family Physicians in Canada and was awarded the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada. A generalist at heart, he enjoys seeing a diversity of patients and practices evidence-based medicine. He enjoys being active outside and is thrilled to now call the beautiful Mid-North Coast home. Dr Candice Harris will be commencing 1 July 2024 Dr Candice Harris started out her medical career as a registered nurse & midwife in Johannesburg, South Africa. Candice obtained a Bachelor of Nursing, Master of Science (Nursing) & Doctor of Philosophy from the University of the Witwatersrand. Candice was a passionate midwife, nursing lecturer and author, and had a special interest in preventing mother to child transmission of HIV. A career start in nursing & midwifery allowed Candice the opportunity to develop into a GP who takes time to quietly listen to the patient’s story, consider the patient as a holistic being within the biopsychosocial model and consider the patient’s critical role, under the guidance of the GP, in coordinating and managing their own health & wellbeing. In 2008, Candice completed a Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery, from the University of the Witwatersrand, and then fully immersed herself in private GP practice in Johannesburg, South Africa. After 10 years of GP practice, the biggest change came – a move to Australia. In 2023, Candice dived straight into the Australian health system by working in the emergency departments at Port Macquarie Base Hospital & Kempsey District Hospital. In 2024, Candice is overjoyed, whilst still working part-time in the ED, to recommence GP practice at Lake Cathie Medical Centre & Bonny Hills Medical Centre. Candice has a passion for women’s health, mental health, chronic illness, aged care, and is evolving her GP practice to include integrative medicine. Nour grew up in the beautiful winter-lands of Canada where she completed her Honours Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto, after which she moved to sunny side Sydney to complete her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Sydney in 2019. Prior to commencing work as a GP she worked in Emergency Medicine in Western Sydney. She has special interest in women’s health, child and family health and skin cancer medicine.
