Dr Candice Harris will be commencing 1 July 2024
Dr Candice Harris started out her medical career as a registered nurse & midwife in Johannesburg, South Africa. Candice obtained a Bachelor of Nursing, Master of Science (Nursing) & Doctor of Philosophy from the University of the Witwatersrand. Candice was a passionate midwife, nursing lecturer and author, and had a special interest in preventing mother to child transmission of HIV. A career start in nursing & midwifery allowed Candice the opportunity to develop into a GP who takes time to quietly listen to the patient’s story, consider the patient as a holistic being within the biopsychosocial model and consider the patient’s critical role, under the guidance of the GP, in coordinating and managing their own health & wellbeing.
In 2008, Candice completed a Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery, from the University of the Witwatersrand, and then fully immersed herself in private GP practice in Johannesburg, South Africa. After 10 years of GP practice, the biggest change came – a move to Australia. In 2023, Candice dived straight into the Australian health system by working in the emergency departments at Port Macquarie Base Hospital & Kempsey District Hospital.
In 2024, Candice is overjoyed, whilst still working part-time in the ED, to recommence GP practice at Lake Cathie Medical Centre & Bonny Hills Medical Centre. Candice has a passion for women’s health, mental health, chronic illness, aged care, and is evolving her GP practice to include integrative medicine.
In Australia, Candice is joined by her husband and a very special son – who believes that he will be the next karate kid. Candice is also joined by her 4 furry babies (2 dogs & 2 cats) who took the long trip over the ocean from South Africa.
